Lavender, known for its soothing properties, is a 100% pure essential oil of pharmacopoeia quality, distilled in the Tihany Lavender Distillery.

In 1926, Gyula Bittera brought the first lavender blossoms from Provence to Tihany, the most valuable and purest lavender species, lavandula angustifolia.
Up until the 1950s, lavender was cultivated over a large area, and the location and climate of Tihany favoured the plant so much that, according to some records, more valuable essential oils were obtained from distillation here than in France.
After nationalization, most of the lavender field was wiped out and the lavender distillery was closed.
In 2019, however, the Tihany essential oil distillery was restored, and you can see it in operation in the Lavender Tihany building.
